Employment and wages

Employment in Kansas' professional and business services industry grew by 8,748 jobs in 2022, a growth of 5.1%, a recovery from the approximately 10,000 jobs lost in 2020. The sector was relatively flat from 2015 to 2019, growing by 0.1% in that period. From 2009 to 2015, the industry was one of Kansas' fastest growing, expanding by 25.1%. Professional and technical services within the industry, one of the most significant components, grew by 5.4. In fact, all sectors within the industry saw employment growth; management of companies and enterprises expanded by 3.8% and administrative support and waste management services grew by 5.1%. The professional, scientific, and technical services and business services industry wage rate grew by 5.1% in 2022 to $86,183. Annual wages grew in all sectors, with management of companies and enterprises growing the most (8.3%) to continue its trend as the subsector with the most robust wages ($134,805). (10.6% to $60,401). Administrative and support and waste management services wages grew by 7.2% to $50,426.

News and Developments

• In August 2023, Governor Laura Kelly announced that Goodwill Industries of Kansas was awarded $67,770 in funds through Americorps, the federal agency for service and volunteering.

• In July 2023, Overland Park-based V Wealth merged with the Wealth Consulting Group. With V Wealth’s over $2 billion of asserts under advisement, this move brought WCG’s total assets under advisement to over $7 billion.

• In March 2023, RecruitAERO announced its opening as Wichita’s first Women-owned fractional recruiting firm. The firm will specialize in recruiting in aerospace and defense, and will focus on nation-wide recruitment and talent acquisition.
